ROCKFORD (WREX)- Middle schoolers in the area put their math skills to the ultimate test.

Rock Valley College's Woodward Technology Center hosted a competition called Mathcounts. It's a project through the Rockford Chapter of the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers

The idea is to get kids excited about math as they get closer to high school. "It's more to just really spur their interest in mathematics and problem solving skills as part of a competition, as opposed to just general school work," said Doug Curry of the IL Society of Professional Engineers.

Sixth, seventh and eighth graders participated in the competition.
